On November 2nd, we will transport a group from Cortona Piazza Mercato to Pienza for a guided tour by David Mayernik.
Key highlights from the itinerary:
- Walk into town along Corso Il Rossellino [cheese shops, view toward piazza and palazzo]
- Visit the cathedral, courtyard, and garden of Palazzo Piccolomini
- Tour the Diocesan Museum of Pienza, housed inside the Palazzo Vescovile or the Palazzo Borgia [numerous works of art from other churches in the territory]
- Visit Agricola Casagori—a biodynamic farm based in Pienza
Mayernik is an Associate Professor at the University of Notre Dame in Rome and is the author of Timeless Cities: An Architect's Reflections on Renaissance Italy. His extensive experience includes teaching at the Prince of Wales’ Summer School and the New York Academy of Art, and he was recently a resident fellow at the Bogliasco Foundation.
David Mayernik is a Fellow of The American Academy in Rome and the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures, & Commerce at RSA. He was named one of the top forty architects in the United States under forty for the decade of 1986-1995. He won the Arthur Ross Award from Classical America along with Thomas N. Rajkovich for their design of the Minnesota State Capitol grounds.
Awarded the Gabriel Prize for his studies in France, Mayernik's research has produced two books, numerous articles, and an online course in Rome that has reached nearly six thousand students worldwide. He also co-founded the Tuscan Renaissance Academy in Lucca with Frederico Del Carlo to advance and teach Renaissance art and culture.
