Dr. Streeter oversees research in education, American citizenship, politics, public opinion, and social and cultural studies. Before joining AEI, he was executive director of the Center for Politics and Governance at the University of Texas at Austin.

Ryan has a distinguished career in government service, which includes being deputy chief of staff for policy for Indiana Governor Mike Pence, special assistant for domestic policy to President George W. Bush at the White House, and policy adviser to Indianapolis Mayor Stephen Goldsmith. Outside of government, he has served as a senior fellow at the Legatum Institute and as a research fellow at the Hudson Institute.

His accomplishments include multiple books, television and radio appearances, which include BBC News, CNBC, and Fox News, and widely published articles in the National Review, The Wall Street Journal, The Weekly Standard, and The Washington Post.

Dr. Streeter has a Ph.D. in political philosophy from Emory University.

The Positive Social Impact of Neighborhood Amenities

The first-ever Survey of Community and Society conducted by the American Enterprise Institute (AEI) has produced an interesting mix of data on a wide range of topics such as social capital, community quality, loneliness, happiness, and more. Among the most salient findings is the strong relationship between living proximately to a rich blend of neighborhood amenities and other social goods such as higher trust, neighborliness, civic involvement, and confidence in institutions. While we know that living close to amenities such as grocery stores raises property values, these new data are among the first to show that proximity to amenities produces a range of other social goods we all care about. AEI Director of Domestic Policy Ryan Streeter will walk through the findings and explore what they mean for policies affecting community design.
